Tuchel Questions Wembley Fan Atmosphere Following Dominant Wales Victory.
The England head coach voiced his regret that the England team did not enjoy more backing from the Wembley fans during their commanding triumph over Wales on Thursday night.
Tuchel was happy to see his side maintain their winning momentum, with finishes from Rogers, Watkins, and Saka inside the opening quarter settling the game. However, he was not content with the atmosphere at the national stadium.
“With one and a half sessions to prepare against a drilled team and we did very well,” the coach stated. “It could have been five goals ahead at half-time. We couldn’t score the additional ones. The stadium was silent. There was no support from the stands. Our team gave their all to win.”
“How much more can you deliver in the first quarter? We didn’t let them escape. If you hear just Wales fans for half an hour, it’s regrettable because the squad earned greater backing today.”
“I support my words. We cannot do more than leading three goals up in a derby. I would have wished for a greater backing in phases where it becomes tough.”
“After halftime, to support us, there was a bit too much support for Wales. It could have helped us to recharge, but that’s football and so be it.”
Selection Choices Justified by Performance
Apart from potentially starting a dispute among fans, Tuchel also raised eyebrows by excluding Bellingham and Foden from his squad. Yet the move was validated by Rogers delivering another standout performance in the attacking midfield role and getting his maiden goal for his country.
“That’s his style,” Tuchel explained. “He operates as an attacking midfielder and he is fighting for his spot.”
Wales Manager Seeks Improvement from Defeat
The Wales manager expressed hope that Wales, who host Belgium in a crucial World Cup qualifier on Monday, learn from their disappointing performance in the opening period.
“That’s the reason I scheduled this match,” Bellamy stated. “I wanted to assess where we are. Where do we want to go? What is our identity? Today gives me inspiration.”
Injury Concern for Watkins
Ollie Watkins was withdrawn at half-time after clattering into a goalpost and will be a doubt when England play Latvia in the Latvian capital in a qualifier on Tuesday.
