Trump's Business Attempted to Hire Almost 200 Employees on Work Permits in 2025
Donald Trump’s corporate entity increased its recruitment of overseas employees on short-term work permits this period, even as his administration was creating barriers for other businesses wanting to do the same, an analysis released Thursday stated.
Based on data from the US Department of Labor, the Trump Organization aimed to bring in at least 184 overseas employees in the coming year for temporary positions at the US president’s Florida property, two golf clubs and his Virginia winery.
The quantity of applications for temporary work visas covering staff including waitstaff, office assistants, cleaning staff, kitchen staff and agricultural laborers was the record submitted by the company, and increased from 121 in 2021, when his presidency ended.
It was also the fifth instance in 10 years that Trump had attempted to bring in over a hundred foreign employees for seasonal jobs at his Florida resort, based on available data.
The disclosure comes amid a tightening on immigration laws by his government that has involved the implementation of a substantial charge on skilled worker visas; increased review of the activities of the millions of people who possess American work permits; and tighter regulations for foreign students and reporters.
Overall, the Trump Organization sought to hire 566 foreign laborers over the five years Trump has been in the White House, from 2017 to 2021 and during the upcoming year.
Notably, Trump was criticized by certain in the GOP this period for comments defending the necessity for foreign workers when a business was unable to find people with “particular skills” to fill particular roles.
“You can’t just say a nation is entering, going to invest billions to build a plant, and going to take people off an unemployment line who have been unemployed in five years, and they’re going to start producing their missiles. It isn’t feasible that well,” he stated to a interviewer after it was implied that overseas employees lower the pay of American employees.
The White House declined a request for comment, and the Trump Organization did not immediately respond to an inquiry.
