Marnus Labuschagne Omitted from Australia's One-Day International Team Versus India

Labuschagne finds himself omitted from the three-match ODI series facing India, with high-performing Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw receiving a shock call-up.

Performance Issues Result in Omission

Selectors dropped Labuschagne from the ODI team after scoring just one run in his two batting efforts during the recent series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a best innings of forty-seven in his last 10 ODI innings.

Labuschagne has featured in 68 one-day internationals and amassed 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now work towards a return to the Test side ahead of the Ashes beginning in Perth on November 21.

Renshaw's Return and Other Squad Updates

Labuschagne has shown signs of a return to form with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw scored a century for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

Renshaw could to make his ODI debut in the upcoming series against India after previously being selected in an ODI squad in 2022.

Renshaw has played 14 Test matches with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also hoping for a Test return as Australia search for a fix to their batting top-order problems.

Pace Additions and Fitness Updates

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc is back for the ODI series against India after being rested since performing well for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.

Big Bash star Mitch Owen could make his ODI debut after being concussed in the lead up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins is still unavailable as he works to regain fitness from a spinal issue in time to lead Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Team Announcement Strategy and Schedule

Australia have announced a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-match series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 teams after hitting a ton in the last match against New Zealand to secure a 2-0 series win last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as players get ready for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the preparation for the World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare specific players for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-game ODI series against India starts on October 19 in Perth, before the rivals play five T20s from October 29.
