Hodgkinson Wraps Up Campaign with Victorious Display at Athlos in New York
The athlete achieved her fastest time of 1:54.61 last year in London.
Keely Hodgkinson finished her 800m campaign with a triumph at the all-female Athlos meet in New York on Friday evening.
{The current Olympic champion, who secured third place at the World Championships last month, dominated an outstanding victory in 1:56.53 in what was only her sixth race in a year impacted by a hamstring injury.
Compatriot and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell took the runner-up spot again in 1:58.33, while St Vincent's Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) claimed third.
"I've barely raced this season so it was probably less of a struggle for me to compete and be motivated to perform," said the 23-year-old.
"The environment out there is crazy so it was really, really fun."
The female-exclusive meet filled the stadium in its second year, bringing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with musical performances and special crowns replacing standard medals.
The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena W., who is wed to Athlos founder Alexis O., was present to present the victors with their crowns.
Last year's winners received sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.
The event also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's three-time Olympic gold medallist and global record breaker Faith Kipyegon won the mile, crossing the finish line in 4:17.78.
The US Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze medallist from the recent Paris Games, won the sprint double.
