Flight operations have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport after a significant air traffic control outage grounded all flights.

Every arrival and departure were halted after an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.

A number of travelers found themselves stranded in aircraft on the tarmac while the issue persisted.

Services Recommence with Residual Impact

A statement indicated at 10:40 that services were back online, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

That said, ongoing issues are likely to continue throughout the day. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with numerous other services experiencing delays.

Officials had previously estimated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be disrupted.

"Passengers are advised to contact their airlines for the current status on their individual travel plans," the statement added.

Cause of the Chaos

Officials linked the full ground stop to an technical fault with its control tower systems vendor.

Travelers continue to be advised to confirm the details of their journey before traveling to the airport as knock-on effects are managed.
