Exploring an Unique Steam Demo: Guiding a Poop on a Quest to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have found a variety of entertaining independent titles. Yet, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game features a character that is truly a dung striving to travel to a commode. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

Player controls is simple: press a jump control. Throughout one hundred fifty challenges, encounter tough enemies and unlock a market to purchase outfits for your dung hero.

Time your jumps precisely, as a wrong move means starting over. Leap on air pockets to launch the poop upward, traverse fragile platforms, and interact with switches to reveal secret routes. Collect coins and use them on tougher levels as the action ramps up.

Graphically, the experience shows off vibrant environments and a killer music score. The simple graphics of moving abstract forms could recall players of old favorites like Earthbound.

Even though hard to think of similar titles where you control a dung character, interactive entertainment often included scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can craft explosives from character excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as soil enrichment. Naturally, this theme shows up a lot in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its goofy concept, Unko Technica has already earned impressive accolades, such as being named best at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. The demo is ready now on Steam, with the final release set to debut on computers on November 19.
