Devastated Hong Kong Residents Shocked as Major Blaze Engulfs Housing Blocks

"Getting closer to the scene, the warmth intensifies and you can feel it, with the fumes being particularly thick."

Student an eyewitness was among the many individuals attracted to the location of a tragic inferno that ravaged much of the eight-building residential estate in Hong Kong's Tai Po district.

A minimum of over three dozen people have lost their lives in yesterday's devastating inferno currently, with hundreds still missing, suggesting that this number will probably increase.

"We're facing a tragedy," Thomas commented about the incident, noting that he had witnessed a deceased person being removed from the location.

Over a thousand additional people were forced to leave the complex as the blaze expanded, with many heading to emergency centers that have been established to accommodate them.

The blaze is slowly being controlled, but officials state they are uncertain when it will be completely put out.

Fire could be witnessed emanating from specific units as countless people watched in silence.

"I feel heartbroken. We have so numerous neighbors and friends. I cannot comprehend what is occurring anymore. See, all the apartments are just ablaze. I do not know what to do. I hope the government can help us to rebuild after this."

One woman stated that her neighbors live inside the building and she was waiting to discover if they managed to evacuate.

A long-term resident, who has resided in building number two of the residential estate for over 40 annums, described perceiving "a tremendous explosion" and witnessing flames break out in a adjacent block.

"I immediately went back to pack up my things," the elderly occupant stated.

"I don't even know how I emotionally at this moment. I'm just thinking about where I'm going to stay this evening because I probably will not go re-enter my residence."

Even though the source of the inferno that overwhelmed the multiple high-rise buildings continues to be unknown, the fire are thought to have rapidly expanded through the temporary structures that enveloped the structures, which were in the process of renovations.

Several residents have demonstrated frustration that such a large-scale blaze could have occurred and criticised the response.

"In cases where there's a brush fire, they will utilize aircraft and drop extinguishing materials, but why is there zero response and how can they leave other buildings ablaze?" asked one more occupant of the estate.

"This area is so proximate to the fire station and we assumed the blaze could be extinguished rapidly, but now the fire has spread. I'm so discouraged," she added.

The woman mentioned that she had been offered little guidance from the authorities on where to obtain help.

Numerous local community members had delivered supplies to the affected individuals - including many of coverings and warming devices.

Upon questioning about their sentiments regarding the tragedy, residents stated that "authorities is incompetent" and that they were "profoundly heartbroken".

"We hope not to witness any further fatalities," commented one.

A senior woman who lives in one of the damaged buildings mentioned she was not at home when the blaze started but that she is anxious about her home because it is without coverage.

"I'm very distressed that I have no home to go to currently," she remarked.
