Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening stating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and were in communication with the league office.

The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Claims Posted on Social Media

The woman, who also did not mention the athlete directly, posted a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.

Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File

No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Player's Prior Legal Issues

Rice was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

Statistically, Rice finished the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
